Working of Water Mist System
Water mist systems works with the same functionality as dry pipe, deluge, pre-action or wet pipe systems. The difference in other systems and water mist system is that water mist system uses a compressed gas to reduce water into smaller or tiny particles, which is pumped through the sprinkler pipe. Some systems use a high-pressure pump to pressurize the water instead of compressed gas, so it reduces into tiny particles as it exits the sprinkler nozzle. Water Mist Systems are define din different types in their standard, they are low pressure systems, intermediate pressure systems, and high pressure systems. So low pressure systems will do their operation at a pressure as same as the pressures that sprinkler systems will operate.
Intermediate system operates at pressure varying between 175 psi and 500 psi, and then high pressure systems operates at pressure varying between, 500 psi and more.Now, differences are in terms of droplet sizes that they produce, usually as as water droplet size decreases the system is better at extinguishing a fire risk.

Low Pressure Water Mist systems are those where the water piping is under pressures varying from 12.1 bar (175 psi)or less. The mean droplet size and flow rates and are generally higher when compared with intermediate pressure or high pressure Water Mist systems.
These Water Mist systems are quite economical because these systems are usually installed along with conventional sprinkler alarm valve, however the applications of Water Mist systems are limited when it comes to Intermediate and High Pressure Water Mist systems in. terms of extinguishing efficiency.

Intermediate Pressure Water Mist systems are those where the water piping is under pressures varying from greater than 12.1 bar (175 psi) but less than 34.5 bar (500 psi).
