FIRE BLANKET IN DUBAI

What is a fire blanket?

A fire blanket mainly consists of a piece of fire -resistant fabric which is usually made of woven glass fiber that can be used to wrap around a person whose clothing is alight for a smother or a small fire.

A fire blanket is a safety device designed to extinguish initial small fires. When a fire occur, Fire blanket is used in order to smother fire, which consists of a sheet of a fire resistant or retardant material . Fire blankets used in kitchens and home are small are usually made of fiberglass and Kevlar in some cases, and are folded into a quick-release contraption which helps in ease storage.

Fire blankets, along with fire extinguishers, are also used in case of a fire risk. These fire blankets are nonflammable which are helpful in smothering fires by not allowing any oxygen into the fire at temperatures up to 900 degrees. A fire blanket can be used for someone who has no knowledge about fire protection or in experienced with the fire protection methods and extinguishers

Operation of fire Blanket

For every fire to get started burning, all three elements of the fire triangle that is heat, fuel, and oxygen must be present. The fire blanket is used to reduce or cut off the oxygen supply to the fire, thereby saving humans from fire. The fire blanket must be sealed closely to a solid surface around the fire. Usually outside the packaging of a Fire blanket, have 2 pull-down tails visible. The user should use these tails to remove the blanket from the bag by placing one hand on each tag and pull down simultaneously. The tails in every fire blanket are located near the top of the fire blanket which will permit the top lip of the fire blanket to fold back over the civilian’s hand, protecting them from the heat of the fire and direct contact burns.

How to use a Fire Blanket

Using a fire blanket correctly is one of the safest ways to extinguish a flammable liquid burning
in a container – for example, oil or fat burning in a saucepan. Here are the appropriate steps

  1. Hang on an accessible location

A fire blanket should be hung in or close to the kitchen. It must be quickly accessible when a fire breaks out in the kitchen, where 40% of all house fires start.
Many people choose to hang theirs on the back side of their kitchen closet door. It’s out of sight, but very easy to access in times of need.

  2. Pull black drawstrings

When a small fire starts, you can usually get to the blanket by pulling the two black drawstrings that hang from the bottom of many blankets. The blanket will fall down from its red bag.

  3. Hold the blanket as a shield between you and the fire

Take hold of the blanket’s upper corners and hold it at chest height between you and the fire. Keep it spread out to make the advantage of the entire surface area of the fire.

  4. Gently cover the fire

Drop the blanket over the fire carefully while keeping it between you and the flames. Attempt to completely encircle the fire with the blanket. The goal is to use the blanket to smother the fire.

  5. Leave the blanket covering the fire

You should leave the blanket on the fire for several minutes to ensure it’s covered completely. Pulling back the blanket too soon will allow the fire access to oxygen which will cause it to flare up. We’d stay safe and leave the blanket covering the fire for longer than we think we have to.

  6.  Turn off power supply

Once the blanket placed over the fire, quickly turning off any power supplies near the source of the fire to prevent spread of electrical fires.

  7. water may makes things worse

Because it can splatter combustible oils everywhere, water is generally useless for cooking fires. Rather of putting water on the fire, a fire blanket or a kitchen-rated fire extinguisher is frequently a preferable option.

  8. Assess the situation

If the fire blanket is not appropriate for the fire, a fire extinguisher might work better. If you don’t have a fire extinguisher yet, it’s an essential household item. Consider contacting the fire department if you cannot control the fire. Removing all people from the area of the fire and contacting professionals is always the safest option in our opinion.
